On September 22nd 1971, the Bahraini flag was raised at the United Nations for the first time, signalling the Kingdom’s entrance into the family of nations as a modern independent state. Since then, the Kingdom has vastly expanded its diplomatic network and international reach. Today, the Kingdom of Bahrain has embassies and representatives in more than thirty countries, with work underway to expand our global presence further.
Much of this work was accomplished under the guidance of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister and the Kingdom’s first Minister of Foreign Affairs. On January 14th 2019, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa ordained the establishment of a diplomatic academy to succeed the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The new institution honours His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak as a pioneer of Bahraini diplomacy: The Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies.
