MoFA Undersecretary inaugurates National Training Workshop

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary and Chairman of the National Committee on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons, Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, inaugurated the National Training Workshop on the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreements, Additional Protocols and Small Quantities Protocols.

The workshop was held on November 4-6, in the presence of representatives from official academic authorities in the Kingdom.

In her speech, Dr. Shaikha Rana affirmed the keenness of Bahrain to promote international peace and security, noting the Kingdom’s prominent role in supporting the efforts of the international community to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, stop such weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists and achieve the highest standards of non-proliferation.

She also reiterated the Kingdom’s keenness to strengthen the transparency and sustainability of its partnership with international organisations, particularly with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The IAEA delegation expressed their deep appreciation for Bahrain for its efforts to develop cadres in governmental and academic institutions by holding such important workshops, which are the first of their kind in the country.

They also praised the mechanisms used to track unlicensed activities in the Kingdom, looking forward for further cooperation between the two sides.

The workshop aims at exchanging views and experiences regarding the controls on nuclear exports, presenting the experiences and methodology of developing the nuclear export control system, and how to counter illegal trade, all of which aim to strengthen control measures and overcome obstacles and  challenges in this field.

It is worth mentioning that the Kingdom has ratified the Safeguards Agreement signed between the Kingdom and IAEA under Law 3/2009 and the Additional Protocol to the aforementioned agreement under Law 10/2011.
