Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Foreign Affairs Minister, and Ghanim bin Fadhl Al Buainain, Minister of Shura and Representatives Councils Affairs, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Parliamentary Diplomacy Diploma programme, prepared jointly by the Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies and the Representatives Council.
The programme, coinciding with the Bahraini Diplomatic Day on January 14, stemmed from the cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, in light of the comprehensive development process of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The Speaker affirmed the Council of Representatives’ pride as an active contributor in serving the kingdom’s foreign policy, consolidating its effective presence, and enhancing the trust it enjoys at the international level.
He noted the diplomatic success in the kingdom’s hosting of the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in March of last year, under the theme “Promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies: Fighting intolerance,” which confirmed international parliamentary confidence in Bahrain.
The programme discussed topics related to the foundations of foreign policy, diplomatic work, the role of the legislative environment in attracting foreign investment, and strategic relations with countries and organisations, in addition to diplomatic skills in dealing with vital issues.
Al Musallam expressed the joint keenness of the parliament entities in participating in parliamentary meetings, forums, and conferences, regionally and internationally, which reflects their constant endeavor to achieve the kingdom’s goals in foreign policy and elevating its international position.
He expressed great pride in Bahrain’s foreign policy, noting that Bahraini diplomacy is based on a rich legacy, and stems from noble humanitarian values, including tolerance, co-existence, fraternity, mutual respect, commitment to international conventions and laws, in addition to contributions to consolidating global security, peace and stability for the best interests of the entire world.
The Speaker expressed his appreciation to Dr. Al Zayani and all the ministry’s staff for their dedication to serving the nation. He also paid tribute to the affiliates of the Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies for their fruitful contributions and major role in preparing the programme.
Dr. Al Zayani affirmed the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s interest in establishing a solid and constructive partnership with the legislative branch to further strengthen the role of parliamentary diplomacy in achieving the national goals, in light of the comprehensive development process of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, supported by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
