The National Committee on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Development, Production, Use and Stockpiling and their Destruction, chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Duaij Al Khalifa, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Civil Defence of the Ministry of Interior, held a workshop on dealing with dangerous substances.
The workshop was held at the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of the Customs Affairs President Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Dr. Shaikha Rana delivered a speech in which she expressed appreciation to the General Directorate of Civil Defence for contributing to the success of the workshop. She affirmed the keenness of the Committee to enhance its cooperation with various bodies in the Kingdom in order to hold more workshops and seminars that raise awareness regarding chemical weapons and the chemical substances used in their making as well as the grave dangers they may cause.
Capt. Bassim Khalaf from the Ministry of Interior noted the importance of holding such workshops to educate the society on dangerous substances. He also briefed the audience on the precautionary and protective measures taken by the Ministry of Interior to prevent and deal with accidents caused by chemical substances.
Also from the Ministry of Interior, Lt. Qassim Al-Khalaqi explained the strategies followed by the General Directorate of Civil Service to control chemical accidents. He also briefed the attendees on the types of chemical weapons and the purposes for using them.
The workshop was attended by members of the National Committee on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Development, Production, Use and Stockpiling and their Destruction and representatives of relative governmental bodies.
