HM King issues Decree 68/2016 restructuring MoFA

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued Royal Decree 68/2016 restructuring the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) under the Minister of Foreign Affairs who will be in charge of the Diplomatic Institute and the Communication Directorate.

The Decree stipulated that the Assistant Foreign Minister will be in charge of the Directorate of Human Rights and the Directorate of Legal Affairs. The Decree also stipulated the Foreign Ministry’s Undersecretary will be in charge of the Directorate of Protocols and Conferences and the Directorate of Operation. The Assistant Undersecretary for Consular Affairs, Resources and Informatics will be in charge of the Directorate of Financial Resources, the Directorate of Human Resources, the Directorate of Informatics Systems and the Directorate of Citizens and Residents Affairs and Consular Services, according to the Decree. The Undersecretary for International Affairs will oversee the Directorate for Organisations and the Assistant Undersecretary for Western and Afro-Asian Countries Affairs who will be in charge of the Directorate of Afro-Asian Affairs, the Directorate of European and European Union Affairs and the Directorate of the Two Americas and the Pacific Affairs. The Undersecretary for Regional and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Affairs will oversee the Assistant Undersecretary for GCC and Arab countries who is in charge of the Directorate of GCC Affairs and the Directorate of Arab Affairs. The Decree has rescinded Decree 49/2009 regarding the restructuring of the Foreign Ministry and Decree 7/2015 attaching the Human Rights Affairs to the Foreign Ministry. The Minister of Foreign Affairs has been tasked to implement this Decree effective from the day following the date of its publishing in the Official Gazette.
