As part of the Diplomatic Forum organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to mark Bahrain Diplomatic Day, observed annually on January 14, a session was held on Bahrain and the United Nations Security Council, focusing on geopolitical dimensions in the region.
The session was delivered by Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, former Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and the United Nations at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, and was moderated by Dr. Shaikha Muneera bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Director General of the Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies.

Lord Tariq Ahmad congratulated the Kingdom of Bahrain on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2026–2027 term, highlighting the Council’s role in addressing regional and international issues. He also highlighted Bahrain’s efforts and active contributions to supporting international peace and security, and its support for political solutions, dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
The session also addressed geopolitical dimensions in the Middle East and North Africa, the security and political challenges facing the region, the importance of international cooperation in promoting stability and development, and the role of UN Security Council member states in supporting regional and international security.
The session concluded with interventions and questions from heads of Bahrain’s diplomatic missions abroad.
